So I got a new game... Empyrion - Galactic Survival
This Steam sale is killing my wallet. But I'm sick, and I need something to entertain me while I recuperate. So my addiction continues.
This time it's 'Empyrion - Galactic Survival'. From what I can tell, it looks like Minecraft in Space. Sounds good to me. Let's give this a shot. I'll be back after my initial trial run at this with my thoughts.
Played for the first half hour. I can tell this is going to take a few more hours of experience before I really get a feel for what this game is about. So far I've followed an online guide to get me started; I was pretty clueless on my own. The game starts you out with a lot of items, not many of which are self-explanatory to their use. I'll be back after another game play session with more information.
I was right about one thing going in: this is like Minecraft in Space. There's so much to build, fortunately there are in-game recipes for the crafting so you have at least some idea of what to do in this game.

My survival construction kit. Don't crash land without one. |
So far, I've built a meager little base, and defended it from some flying attack-drones. I've also upgraded my initial pistol to an assault rifle, which should help when the next wave of drones appears. Much like Minecraft, this game appears to let you decide what you want to do and lets you do it. The tools for building seem pretty deep. Sometimes unnecessarily complicated, the crafting system gives you quite a few tools for building, shaping the terrain, mining, preparing food, and storing your items.

Now that I've read a few guides, I feel like I could play this one for quite a while without getting bored. There's a lot to like here.

One of my neighbors. Is he friendly? |
What I like: The graphics are decent. The crafting system, while complicated, eventually becomes a bit easier to use and shows a lot of promise. Combat is fun and rewarding. I've seen some concepts here that I haven't seen in Minecraft, and I like that. It's not just another clone.
What I don't like: The in-game information and hints are just barely enough to start playing on your own, but the game could really use a tutorial.

My base, beginning to take shape. |
I'll keep playing this one. It's been fun to play and I want to see what else it has left in store. Supposedly, you can build spaceships. I haven't gotten nearly that far along, but it sounds like a pretty fun goal to work towards.
Thanks for reading.
